Hyderabad: In a late-night operation on Friday, Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested an executive engineer from the irrigation department in Karimnagar district for accepting a bribe from a contractor in exchange for bill approvals.
The accused, Amrinder Reddy, was posted as Executive Engineer (EE) of Irrigation Division 7 in Rajanna Sircilla district. According to ACB officials, Reddy had demanded ₹1 lakh from a contractor to clear bills worth ₹50 lakh. After negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹75,000.
The contractor approached the ACB, which devised a trap. Acting on the plan, officials caught Reddy red-handed at his residence in Vyadyanagar while he was accepting ₹60,000 in cash.
Suspecting a sting operation, the engineer attempted to dispose of the money by wrapping it in his son’s T-shirt and throwing it into an open area behind his house. However, ACB officers managed to recover the cash with the help of CCTV footage installed at the residence.
Reddy was taken into custody and further investigation is underway to determine whether he was involved in similar acts previously. ACB sources confirmed that charges will be filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
