Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday announced that the state government will bear medical expenses up to ₹1.5 lakh for road accident victims, provided treatment begins within a week of the incident.

The minister held a review meeting to assess implementation of the state’s cashless treatment system for accident victims. After discussions with officials, he said the government aims to provide free treatment promptly under a defined protocol.

He directed the police to ensure immediate response to accident reports and mandated registration of incident and victim details in the e-DAR (Electronic Detailed Accident Report) system. The data logged into e-DAR will serve as the basis for the state to process and pay medical expenses.

However, Prabhakar clarified that the scheme will only apply to hospitals that are part of the Ayushman Bharat network. Treatment outside this network will not be eligible for reimbursement under the programme.
