Revanth Reddy warns of key challenges ahead for Congress in Telangana

Congress in Telangana

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday cautioned Congress leaders that the party in Telangana faces several political challenges, including upcoming delimitation of constituencies, implementation of women’s reservation, and possible simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing the Political Affairs Committee meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, Revanth Reddy said 65 leaders who had worked hard for the party had been appointed to nominated posts during the past 18 months. He added that more such appointments were pending and would be made soon. Vacancies in market and temple committees would also be filled shortly.

He warned that any leader who accepted a post but failed to perform would be removed. The Pradesh Congress Committee president, he said, had been instructed to identify such individuals. He asked party workers to prepare for the upcoming local body polls, and specifically urged Hyderabad-based leaders to begin groundwork for the Jubilee Hills by-election.

Revanth Reddy said the responsibility lay with party workers to deliver strong results across Telangana in local elections and called for a united campaign. He pressed the cadre to strengthen public contact and consolidate the party’s position on the ground.

The Chief Minister claimed that the Congress government’s 18-month tenure had brought measurable progress. He said these achievements needed to be communicated effectively to the public. Revanth Reddy contrasted the Congress’s performance with what he called ten years of failed governance under BRS, and challenged the opposition party to an open debate on welfare and development outcomes.

According to Revanth Reddy, 60,000 government jobs had been filled in the past year, and another 30,000 were in the pipeline. He said ₹1.04 lakh crore had been spent on agriculture, including loan waivers, the Rythu Bharosa scheme, and other farm programmes. No other government in India, he claimed, had matched this level of spending on farmers.

He cited a 40% hike in student diet charges and a 200% increase in cosmetic allowances. He also noted the caste census carried out in Telangana, calling it a political challenge to the Centre. The exercise, he said, had pushed the Modi government to agree to a nationwide caste-based census.

The long-pending issue of sub-categorisation within Scheduled Castes, he said, had also been resolved by the Congress after decades of struggle.

Revanth Reddy mentioned the launch of “Telangana Rising 2047”, a vision document aimed at boosting investments in the state. He told party leaders that responsibility should be met with sincerity, and gave his own elevation as Chief Minister as an example of how commitment to the party was recognised with leadership roles.

The meeting was attended by PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, AICC in-charge for Telangana Meenakshi Natrajan, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Damodar Raja Narasimha, government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir and others.
