HYDERABAD, February 6: The previous Telangana government misused the data collected through the Samagra Kutumba Survey (Comprehensive Family Survey), alleged senior Congress leader and government advisor Shabbir Ali. He claimed that the survey data was handed over to private entities, compromising citizens’ privacy.
Addressing the media, Shabbir Ali stated that the then-government spent ₹100 crore on the survey, but the collected data ultimately served no public benefit. He asserted that the survey details were kept confidential and not utilised for welfare measures. Alleging serious irregularities, he urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to initiate a CID probe into the matter.
Shabbir Ali also highlighted the Congress party’s commitment to ensuring justice for Backward Classes (BCs) within the Muslim community. He remarked that BRS leaders K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), and Harish Rao did not participate in the caste census and, therefore, had no moral right to comment on it.
The controversy over data privacy and the caste census is expected to intensify as political parties continue to engage in debates over governance practices and social justice policies in Telangana.
