Hyderabad: A long-awaited automated parking facility near KBR Park kicked off its 10-day trial run on Sunday, signalling a potential end to the chaos of roadside parking that has plagued the area for years.
The project, driven by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), was launched in response to persistent traffic snarls—especially during early mornings and evenings when fitness enthusiasts flood the park. After multiple failed attempts to manage the congestion, the city finally settled on a structured, tech-enabled solution.
Tucked into a 400-square-yard plot near the park entrance, the new multi-level facility can accommodate up to 72 vehicles. It runs on Korean automation tech—complete with sensors and lift systems—that handles the vertical shuffling of cars without human intervention.
Built under a Public-Private Partnership model to sidestep funding hurdles, the project was awarded to Nav Nirman through a competitive bid. The company will also handle maintenance for the next decade. While users will pay a nominal fee to park, the final tariff is still being finalised.
