New Delhi: Parliament’s monsoon session is set to begin on 21 July and run through 12 August, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Wednesday in New Delhi.
Speaking to reporters, Rijiju said the government was prepared to discuss any issue during the session, provided it adhered to parliamentary rules.
Rijiju’s announcement gained significance in view of opposition parties’ demand for a special session of the Parliament to discuss the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor, and remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding mediation between India and Pakistan, as well as comments made in Singapore by CDS Anil Chauhan concerning a downed Indian jet.
On June 3, the INDIA alliance, comprising 17 parties, convened in New Delhi to strategise and formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a special session. This will be the first session since the formation of the Modi 3.0 government and the conclusion of Operation Sindoor.
Rijiju reiterated the government’s readiness to discuss key topics if the opposition brings them forward in line with parliamentary procedure. “If the opposition wants to raise the Pahalgam attack or Operation Sindoor, the government is open to discussion,” he said. He also confirmed that the government is considering moving an impeachment motion against Justice Verma during the session.
