HYDERABAD: The Congress leadership has appointed senior leader Meenakshi Natarajan as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Telangana. The announcement was made through an official press release by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Friday evening.
Natarajan, a former Member of Parliament from Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, has held several key positions in the party. She has previously served as the president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress president, and an AICC secretary. She was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 but was unsuccessful in re-election attempts in 2014 and 2019.
Born in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, she has an academic background in biochemistry and law. Besides her political career, Natarajan has authored books, including “1857-Bhartiya Paripeksh” and the novel “Apne Apne Kurukshetra”.
The party also announced other key appointments within the AICC. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been named General Secretary in charge of Punjab, while Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain will oversee Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
While the press release did not mention her predecessor Deepadas Munshi, the party acknowledged the contributions of outgoing AICC general secretaries and in-charges, including Dipak Babria, Mohan Prakash, and Dr. Ajoy Kumar.
Congress insiders believe Natarajan’s experience and close association with the party’s central leadership will play a crucial role in strengthening the party’s position in Telangana.
