HYDERABAD: A tragic incident unfolded in Tekulapalli, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, where a man was allegedly set on fire by his in-laws. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Ballem Gautam from Dantalaboru village in Palvancha mandal, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Gautam had been married to Kavya, the daughter of Ejju Venkateshwarulu and Anuradha from Ramachandrunipeta in Tekulapalli mandal, for three years. The couple, who resided in Sujathanagar, had two daughters. Gautam worked as an electrician. However, following a dispute five months ago, Kavya left their home and began living with her parents.
On the night of February 2, Gautam visited his in-laws’ house to see his wife and children. However, his in-laws, including his mother-in-law, father-in-law, and brother-in-law, reportedly confronted and stopped him. An argument ensued, during which they allegedly poured petrol on him and set him on fire before locking themselves inside the house.
Engulfed in flames, Gautam attempted to douse the fire by jumping into a nearby water container. He sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Khammam by family members. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later shifted to MGM Hospital in Warangal. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Following a complaint by the victim’s father, Ballem Venkateshwarulu, the police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
