Hyderabad: Two Covid-related deaths one in Maharashtra and another in Karnataka have reignited health concerns across the country, as fresh infections show a steady uptick.
In Thane, a 21-year-old man died after testing positive, while in Bengaluru, an 84-year-old succumbed to the virus. Both cases involved high-risk age groups at opposite ends of the spectrum, prompting local health authorities to intensify surveillance.
Kerala currently leads the active case tally with 273 ongoing infections. Tamil Nadu has 66, Maharashtra 56, Karnataka 36, and Delhi stands at 23 active cases, according to latest state health bulletins.
Though overall numbers remain modest, health officials aren’t taking chances. Districts showing clusters have been asked to ramp up testing and resume contact tracing. Public health experts have also urged citizens especially in metros to remain alert, mask up in crowded places, and follow basic hygiene protocols.
The Centre is yet to issue any fresh advisory, but state governments have begun reviewing preparedness as a precautionary step.
The Health Ministry is expected to issue updated guidelines if the trend continues.
