Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) carried out a demolition drive on Thursday in Parvathapur, located within the Peerzadiguda municipal limits, targeting unauthorised constructions on encroached cremation ground land.
Officials revealed that portions of land under Survey Nos. 1 and 12, originally designated for a crematorium, had been illegally occupied and sold over the past two years. Following complaints from residents, HYDRAA personnel moved in and began razing the structures early in the morning, with police deployment ensuring the operation proceeded without major incident.
On Wednesday, HYDRAA chief Ranganath had toured Boduppal and Peerzadiguda municipal zones. He reportedly identified several encroachments and illegal constructions, vowing immediate action. His intervention appears to have prompted Thursday’s enforcement, which drew support from some residents.
However, the operation also sparked backlash. Affected individuals attempted to halt the demolitions, shouting slogans against HYDRAA and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. They accused the government of targeting the poor, claiming that they were not given adequate time to vacate the premises despite requesting a brief reprieve due to ongoing rainfall.
