Hyderabad: A youth from Mancherial fell victim to a chilling WhatsApp trap set by three men posing as a woman. The incident, which unfolded on May 11, ended in kidnapping, torture, and an extortion attempt in the outskirts of Karimnagar.
Lured into chatting by someone using a female identity, the youth was convinced to travel to Karimnagar. Upon arrival, he was received by three men Sandeep, Pranay, and Rehan claiming they were “sent by the girl.”
They drove him out to Velichal village near Karimnagar. What followed was brutal. The trio beat him, tortured him, and demanded ₹50,000.
The youth, terrified and injured, gave them ₹10,000 in cash and was forced to transfer another ₹12,000 through PhonePe. He managed to escape and approached the police, detailing the entire ordeal.
Based on his complaint, police moved swiftly and arrested Sandeep and Pranay. Rehan remains absconding. A manhunt is on.
