HYDERABAD, February 1: Warangal Police Commissioner Amber Kishore Jha announced that 161 children engaged in labour across different areas under the Warangal Police Commissionerate were rescued as part of Operation Smile. The operation was conducted in compliance with central government directives from January 1 to January 31.
Commissionerate police, in collaboration with the Child Welfare Department, Childline, and Labour Department, conducted inspections in Hanamkonda, Warangal, and Jangaon districts. During these inspections, 161 children, including 137 boys and 24 girls, were identified and sent to child care homes. Of these, 92 children were from Telangana, while 69 were from other states.
Additionally, seven shop owners were booked for employing children. In a specific case, a girl from Uttar Pradesh was identified through the Darpan app and reunited with her parents.
The commissioner emphasized that inspections would continue and warned of strict action against those engaging children in labour.
