HYDERABAD: Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services across India were disrupted for approximately 90 minutes, causing difficulties for users attempting to make digital transactions. This marks the third such outage in the past 20 days.
According to DownDetector, around 72% of affected users reported trouble making payments, while 27% faced issues with fund transfers and nearly 1% encountered problems during online purchases.
Peak Disruption Between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM
The outage was most severe between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM, when users experienced significant delays or failures while using platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm.
Previous Outages on 2 April and 26 March
Earlier, UPI services had been down for nearly two and a half hours on both 2 April and 26 March. During those incidents, users faced challenges transferring money through popular apps and over 10 banks experienced issues with UPI and net banking services. Some users were even unable to log in to apps or online banking portals.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) had stated during the previous outages that users were facing temporary technical difficulties, leading to partial disruptions in UPI functionality. NPCI added that these issues had been resolved and the system had stabilised.
NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue, and will keep you updated.
We regret the inconvenience caused.
