Hyderabad, January 27: Tragic incidents in Telangana’s residential hostels have led to the deaths of two students within two days, raising concerns about student welfare and hostel conditions.

In the first incident, an eighth-grade student, Bharat, residing in the SC Hostel at Gopalpet, Wanaparthy district, experienced seizures on Monday morning. Hostel staff immediately shifted him to the MCH Hospital in Wanaparthy for medical assistance. However, despite treatment efforts, Bharat succumbed. Bharat hailed from Edutla village in Gopalpet mandal. Officials have informed his parents about the incident.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, another student, Soumya (17), an Intermediate student at the Tribal Welfare Residential College in Kuntluru, Hayathnagar, died by suicide. She reportedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her classroom. Soumya was a resident of Ambagiri in the Kondanagula mandal of Nagarkurnool district. She was rushed to Vanasthalipuram Area Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police have registered cases for both incidents and are investigating further. These back-to-back tragedies have raised questions about the safety and mental well-being of students in government residential institutions.
