HYDERABAD: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud has challenged BJP leader Bandi Sanjay on the issue of OBC reservations, asserting that the Congress government will introduce a bill in the Assembly to provide 42% reservations for OBCs.
Speaking at the OBC state executive meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud stated that the bill would be passed in the Assembly and pushed for inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
Directly addressing Bandi Sanjay, Goud questioned whether he had the courage to convince Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include the bill in the Ninth Schedule. He also demanded that the Modi government conduct a nationwide caste census alongside the general population census, asking if the BJP leadership had the willpower to implement it.
Goud emphasized that the Congress is committed to OBC welfare, not only by introducing the 42% reservation bill but also by forming a delegation of leaders across party lines to meet the Prime Minister on the issue. He declared that the caste census would mark the beginning of a new era for OBCs.
Highlighting the internal divisions among OBCs, Goud stressed the need for unity and collective strength. He asserted that both in Telangana and across the country, the future belongs to the OBCs. Taking a swipe at the BJP and BRS, he questioned whether either party had the capability to appoint an OBC leader as Chief Minister, stating that only the Congress had the determination to do so.
He credited Rahul Gandhi for initiating the caste census survey and recalled that the Kamareddy OBC Declaration was introduced under his leadership. Goud also pointed out that Congress had responded across party lines when BJP removed Bandi Sanjay from his position as state president.
Further attacking the BRS, Goud accused the KCR family of prioritizing commissions over public welfare and stated that BRS leaders had no moral right to speak about OBC issues. He called on Congress workers to strengthen the party’s presence on social media and actively promote its policies.
The meeting was attended by National OBC Cell Chairman Ajay Singh and several state leaders.
