HYDERABAD: TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud has clarified that there is no rule restricting the appointment of more than one minister from the same family. He asserted that if there is sufficient public support, multiple individuals from a single family can be appointed as ministers.
His remarks come in response to recent comments made by Congress leader Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, who had claimed that senior leader Jana Reddy had objected to more than one member of a particular family being included in the state cabinet.
Mahesh Kumar dismissed Rajgopal Reddy’s statement as his “personal opinion” and emphasised that it does not reflect the party’s official position. He added that he had no information suggesting that Jana Reddy had opposed ministerial appointments based on familial ties.
According to Mahesh Kumar, decisions regarding ministerial posts should be made through collective consultation within the party and based on public confidence, not on family connections. He stressed that the Congress party values public service and merit over kinship.
The statement comes at a time when speculation around cabinet composition and internal dynamics within the Congress party in Telangana is gaining momentum. The party’s high command has yet to make a definitive announcement on the matter.
Notably, there is currently no representation from the minority community in the state cabinet, despite several names from minority backgrounds being mentioned in recent discussions. Political analysts argue that, given the proportion of minorities in Telangana’s population, at least two ministers from minority communities should be included in the cabinet to ensure fair representation.
