Hyderabad: An afternoon cricket game ended in heartbreak for three young men from Kamareddy district who drowned while cooling off in the backwaters of Nizamsagar Project near Hasanpally village on Monday.
According to police, the youths Madhukar Goud, 17, from Elareddy mandal; Naveen, 23, from Thimma Reddy village; and Harsha Vardhan, 17, from Somarpet had set out with friends earlier that day to play cricket at Somarpet. After the match, they headed to the Nizamsagar backwaters to escape the sweltering heat.
Villagers recounted how the three had waded into the water for what they thought would be a harmless dip to cool off. But in the blink of an eye, the carefree swim turned deadly as they suddenly vanished beneath the surface, leaving their friends and onlookers stunned.
Word of the tragedy spread fast. Locals wasted no time in calling for help, and soon, teams from the Nizamsagar police station and the fire department arrived at the scene. Sub-Inspector Shivakumar, who is overseeing the search, said they were doing everything they could to find the missing boys.
As darkness set in, families and neighbours crowded near the water’s edge, their faces etched with worry and hope, waiting for any sign of their loved ones.
