HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has reaffirmed its legal ownership over 400 acres of land in Survey No. 25, Kancha Gachibowli Village, Serilingampally Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, addressing concerns raised over its development plans. The government emphasized that the University of Hyderabad (HCU) holds no legal claim to this land and that the proposed project would not affect any lakes or rock formations.
According to a press release issued by the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), the state had legally reclaimed the land after winning a prolonged legal battle. Originally allotted in 2004 by the then Andhra Pradesh government to IMG Academies Bharata Pvt. Ltd., the allotment was revoked in 2006 due to project inactivity. After a legal process in the High Court and Supreme Court, the state secured full rights over the land as of May 3, 2024.
The TGIIC clarified that this land is officially recorded in revenue documents as “Kancha Asthabal Poramboke Sarkari,” confirming it is government property and free of encroachments. Alienation proceedings were initiated under the new land allotment policy, and the land was formally handed over to TGIIC on July 1, 2024.
Officials from TGIIC coordinated with the University of Hyderabad for a boundary survey, conducted with the university’s consent and presence on July 19, 2024. The survey concluded that the university does not own any part of the 400-acre parcel. It was further confirmed that neither Buffalo Lake nor Peacock Lake falls within this land, contrary to some media reports.
On environmental concerns, TGIIC assured that the development layout has been designed to preserve all major rock formations, including Mushroom Rock, as green zones. An Environmental Management Plan is also under preparation to ensure sustainable development.
TGIIC emphasized that this project aims to promote world-class IT infrastructure and sustainable urban development, and all opposition to the project, allegedly influenced by political motives and real estate interests, is misleading the public and students.
