Hyderabad: Gandhi Bhavan bustled with energy on Monday as Telangana marked its 12th Formation Day with a vibrant celebration led by the state Congress. TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud hoisted the national flag as the chief guest, extending heartfelt greetings to the people of Telangana.
The event, steered by Seva Dal chairman Jitender, drew a bevy of prominent leaders including MP Anil Yadav, MLCs Addanki Dayakar, Ameer Ali Khan, Balamuri Venkat, working president Geeta Reddy, and senior Congress figures Anjan Kumar Yadav and V. Hanumantha Rao. DCC presidents Rohin Reddy, along with Corporation chairpersons Nuthi Srikanth, Mettu Sai Kumar, Ajmat, Kotwal, and Taher Bin Ahmadani, lent strong support to the festivities.
Addressing the gathering, Mahesh Kumar Goud declared the Congress party as the driving force that ended six decades of yearning for statehood. “Telangana was born out of countless sacrifices, and today, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, we are steering the state towards reconstruction and prosperity,” he said.
He also took aim at the BRS’s decade-long rule, accusing it of plunging the state into economic disarray. “We are overcoming the financial mess left behind by the previous government and setting Telangana on a new path of inclusive growth,” he asserted.
Highlighting the party’s achievements, Goud listed key initiatives: the release of 65,000 government jobs within just a year, financial aid to five lakh youth through the Rajiv Yuva Vikas scheme, and the launch of the Mahalakshmi scheme for women’s empowerment, which promises 200 units of free electricity benefiting 50 lakh households.
He also touted the Rs 500 gas subsidy for 40 lakh families, a Rs 21,000 crore farm loan waiver covering 25 lakh farmers, and a Rs 500 per quintal paddy bonus that boosted rice production. Telangana now stands at the top in rice procurement, with a record 2.75 lakh metric tonnes harvested, he noted.
In the realm of social justice, Goud reaffirmed the Congress’s commitment to caste census, 42% reservation for BCs, and SC sub-categorisation, aligning with Rahul Gandhi’s nationwide vision. “Telangana is showing the country the way forward in equitable governance,” he declared, pledging to continue the Congress’s mission of inclusive development and social upliftment.
