Hyderabad: Minister Sridhar Babu on Friday stated that global challenges such as terrorism, climate change, and worldwide inequalities can only be overcome through collective action by all nations. He delivered the keynote address during a panel discussion on “Shaping Multilateralism” as part of the first day of the Bharat Summit.
Delegates from various countries participated in the discussion, which was coordinated by former Union Minister Pallam Raju.
In his speech, Sridhar Babu said, “Climate change, economic crises, terrorism, geopolitical tensions, and social inequalities are transcending national borders. Strengthening international institutions is crucial to address these issues effectively.”
Maria Rodrigues from the United States observed that India’s extensive experience in combating terrorism has been valuable to international institutions. Josh Osh and Berd Conders from Cameroon noted that tensions between major powers have weakened United Nations peacekeeping efforts.
Sayo Suruta, president of the New Democracy Initiative in Japan, stressed the need to cultivate a culture that honours international agreements through small but consistent actions. Dan Herman, senior director at the Centre for American Promise, added that a new system based on equality rather than dominance by a single country is essential.
