Hyderabad: In a swoop at Secunderabad Railway Station, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended two repeat offenders with stolen gold ornaments valued at over ₹11.46 lakh.
The suspects, Thamballa Nithin (27) of Bhadradri Kothagudem and Indirala Rajesh (35) from Nizamabad, were intercepted near Platform 1, Gate No. 2, around 6 a.m. after displaying suspicious behaviour. Both men are no strangers to law enforcement, each with a lengthy record of thefts and snatchings.
Police revealed that Nithin and Rajesh, both drivers by profession, had forged a criminal partnership back in 2009. Since then, they had left legitimate work behind and turned to crime to fund their gambling, online betting, and other habits. Nithin had racked up 23 property-related cases, while Rajesh had 16 prior offences and had already spent time in jails across Telangana.
Their latest arrest followed the recovery of 114.6 grams of melted gold ornaments in their possession. Investigators linked them to at least four chain-snatching cases and two thefts reported this year within the Secunderabad Railway Police Station’s jurisdiction.
The arrests were the result of coordinated efforts led by GRP SHO B. Saieashwar Goud and RPF Inspector Bhavani Shankar Saraswat, supported by a broader team working under the supervision of Superintendent of Railway Police Smt. Chandana Deepti, IPS. The top brass, including IGP Railway and Road Safety K. Ramesh Naidu, IPS, commended the team and promised due rewards for their efforts.
Both suspects have been remanded to judicial custody pending further investigation.
