Jaipur, January 27: Rajasthan witnessed extreme cold on Monday as temperatures dipped below zero, with Fatehpur in Sikar district recording -0.5°C. The severe cold wave conditions caused water to freeze in some areas. The state is expected to experience similar weather for the next three days, with a cold wave alert in effect.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), two Western Disturbances are likely to impact the Western Himalayan region this week. The first is expected to be active on 29 January, followed by another around 1 February, bringing snowfall and rainfall to Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Cold wave alerts have also been issued for Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today. Meanwhile, regions like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal are expected to see a gradual increase in minimum temperatures after 30 January.
In Madhya Pradesh, temperatures had risen over the past week, but nights turned colder from Saturday. Shahdol recorded a minimum of 5°C on Sunday night. Rainfall activity is likely to begin in the state from February 1.
In contrast, Delhi experienced its warmest Republic Day in the last eight years. The maximum temperature on 26 January was recorded at 23.7°C, which is 2°C above normal. The previous warmest Republic Day was in 2017, with a high of 26.1°C.
Authorities across affected regions continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to take precautions during the cold wave.
