Rain of loans on Telangana’s marginalised youth under Rajiv Yuva Vikasam

Hyderabad: Youngsters from some of Telangana’s most disadvantaged communities are counting down to June 2, when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s ambitious Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme finally takes off. For many SC, ST, BC and minority youth who’ve been waiting for a fair shot at running their own business, this scheme is more than just a loan — it’s a chance to stand on their own two feet.

State officials are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth launch, with plans to hand over loan sanction letters to selected beneficiaries on the state formation day itself. The scheme will run until June 9, after which district- and constituency-level training camps will take place between June 10 and 15. Youngsters will get hands-on training to polish their skills in their chosen trades, setting the stage for unit launches from June 16 onwards.

The response has been overwhelming. According to government figures, more than 16 lakh youth have applied for the scheme, each hoping to transform their business ideas into reality. The Congress-led government has earmarked a massive ₹6,250 crore to support nearly 5 lakh eligible applicants this year.

Financial assistance under the scheme comes with a generous subsidy component: loans up to ₹50,000 will be fully subsidised; up to ₹1 lakh will attract a 90% subsidy; loans of ₹2 lakh will see 80% relief; and loans up to ₹4 lakh will be available at a 70% subsidy. The first phase will see units worth up to ₹1 lakh flagged off on June 2.

For thousands of youngsters who have long dreamt of a break, June 2 might just be the first step towards self-reliance.
