Municipal staff nabbed for ₹20,000 bribe in Medchal-Malkajgiri

Hyderabad: A property mutation request took a corrupt turn on Thursday when Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested two municipal employees from Medchal-Malkajgiri district for allegedly taking a ₹20,000 bribe.

According to ACB officials, K. Ram Reddy, a bill collector at the Shamirpet Ward Office, and A. Sravan, a computer operator in Thumkunta Municipality, were apprehended while pocketing the bribe from a resident eager to complete the mutation process for his property.

The trap was set after the complainant contacted the Anti-Corruption Bureau, alleging that officials had demanded a bribe to process the request. Responding quickly, the ACB team caught the pair in the act as they accepted the cash.

Officials emphasised that property mutations are supposed to be handled without any additional payment, and any attempt to extort money from applicants is a clear violation of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The bureau urged citizens to report such incidents through its toll-free helpline 1064, via WhatsApp at 94404 46106, or on the bureau’s website at acb.telangana.gov.in. Officials assured that all complaints would be kept confidential, encouraging residents to help root out corruption in local governance.
