Hyderabad: With the monsoon season nearly here, top officials from Hyderabad’s civic, police, and emergency wings met on Tuesday to finalise their seasonal action plan. The meeting took place at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGiCCC) in Banjara Hills and was chaired by Director V.B. Kamalasan Reddy.
Representatives from the Hyderabad Collectorate, GHMC, Fire Services, TGSPDCL, Health Department, SDRF, IMD, Water Board, and police departments from Cyberabad and Rachakonda attended.
Key points on the table: flood control, uninterrupted electricity during storms, quicker water drainage into nalas, disease containment, and safety checks on old or risky buildings. They also looked at ways to ease traffic snarls in areas that typically flood—141 such trouble spots have been identified across the city.
One of the stronger points of agreement was the need to bring Aapda Mitra volunteers and NGOs closer to on-the-ground operations. Officials also said more needs to be done to get the word out about the SACHET app and similar government services that can help keep the public informed during emergencies.
Kamalasan Reddy asked each department to assign senior officers to a Joint Action Team based at the command centre for faster coordination during emergencies. He urged teams to use the centre’s tech and resources fully.
Police Commissioner C.V. Anand highlighted the need for boots on the ground at flood-prone spots. He also called for smoother coordination among GHMC, traffic police, water board, power officials, and volunteer groups—especially in crunch moments.
From Fire Services, Y. Nagi Reddy suggested drafting an SOP to clarify each department’s role, especially for fire incidents that might spike during the rainy stretch.
Among others present: A.V. Ranganath (HYDRAA), Mukunda Rao (Collectorate), N. Narsimlu (TGSPDCL), Sahadev Ratnakar (GHMC), and Dr. Gajarao Bhupal (Cyberabad police).
The meeting ended with a collective pledge to stay aligned and better prepare the city for the season ahead.
