Hyderabad, January 6: The Telangana police have reportedly intensified action against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders, detaining several opposition figures as protests against the Congress-led state government continue.
On Monday morning, Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy was placed under house arrest at his Kondapur residence. A large contingent of police arrived at his home early in the morning, preventing him from leaving, even as he attempted to head to the gym.
In a related incident, BRSV (Bharat Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi) General Secretary M. Vidhyasagar was arrested by police around midnight. Along with him, approximately 100 student leaders affiliated with the BRS were taken into custody and moved to various police stations.
The crackdown comes as BRS Working President K Tararakarama Rao is scheduled to appear for an ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) inquiry later today. In light of these developments, several party leaders have been detained preemptively across the state, triggering widespread criticism.
BRS leaders have condemned the arrests, accusing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of suppressing opposition voices. They argued that the government, which claims to be people-oriented, is systematically obstructing opposition leaders.
