Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday urged every citizen to plant trees as a matter of urgency, saying they are not just a source of shade, but a lifeline for clean air and future survival.
Marking World Environment Day, the minister Ponnam Prabhakar along with Parliamentarian Suresh Shetkar, AIMIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, District Collector Anudeep Durishetty took part in a tree-planting drive at Golkonda Area Hospital, where he stressed that failing to nurture greenery today could leave future generations gasping for oxygen tomorrow. “If we neglect trees now, a day may come when we’ll be forced to buy oxygen,” he said, sounding a sharp caution.
Drawing a bleak comparison with Delhi, he pointed to how rampant pollution in the capital has made daily life unbearable. “People are migrating to other states. It’s reached a stage where even driving is a challenge,” he remarked. He added that the failure to curb pollution is directly fuelling a surge in health problems, and that tree planting is the most accessible and effective way to avoid similar crises here.
The programme saw participation from senior officials from the Pollution Control Board.
