Hyderabad: Twelve members of the banned CPI (Maoist) from Chhattisgarh surrendered before Bhadradri Kothagudem SP B Rohith Raju on Friday. The group includes two divisional committee members, four area committee members, and several other cadre-level Maoists.
According to police, the surrenders were influenced by “Operation Chhivutha”, a Telangana Police initiative offering rehabilitation and financial support to Maoists willing to lay down arms.
Police said the surrendered members had grown disillusioned with Maoist ideology and chose to leave the movement in order to live peacefully with their families. Each of them will receive an interim relief of ₹25,000 as part of the state’s rehabilitation package.
With this batch, the number of Maoist surrenders in Bhadradri Kothagudem district this year has reached 294, most of them from neighbouring Chhattisgarh. Statewide, 566 Maoists have surrendered in Telangana in 2025, out of a national total of 1,260.
