Hyderabad: A 47-year-old man from Chintapatt village in Yacharam mandal of Ranga Reddy district allegedly ended his life on Thursday after being denied a house under the Indiramma housing scheme, despite having applied for it.
According to villagers, the deceased, identified as Ashok, had initially been listed as a beneficiary in the first phase of the scheme but was later told that his name had been removed. Unable to cope with the disappointment, Ashok hanged himself at his residence, police sources said.
Enraged by the incident, local residents staged a protest in front of the gram panchayat office, sitting with the body and blaming the government for Ashok’s death. They demanded immediate support for his bereaved family.
Villagers revealed that Ashok is survived by his wife and three daughters. They called on the authorities to allocate at least one acre of land to the family and provide government jobs to his daughters as compensation.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
