Hyderabad: Thunderstorms lashed several parts of Telangana on Saturday evening, with gusty winds and lightning leaving a trail of damage. In a tragic incident in Toopran, Medak district, two teenagers were killed by lightning while another was seriously injured.
The incident occurred in Padalapalli village under Toopran Municipality limits. Around 4 pm, as rain started with thunder and lightning, three friends 16-year-old Prasad, 17-year-old Yashwant, and 14-year-old Kiran took shelter under a tree on the outskirts where they had been playing cricket. Lightning struck the tree, killing Prasad and Yashwant instantly. Kiran sustained serious injuries and was shifted to hospital.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
In another rain-related incident in Pallecharla village, Nalgonda district, the roof of a mud house belonging to Sheikh Chanabasha collapsed due to heavy downpour. Fortunately, no one was inside the house at the time, avoiding any casualties.
