Hyderabad: As the monsoon inches closer, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) officials are racing to ensure that the city’s key lakes are not just functional but also scenic. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath toured several water bodies on Tuesday, reviewing the progress of beautification works aimed at transforming these spaces into both water storage and leisure spots.

His first stop was the revered Batukamma Kunta in Amberpet, a site that plays a vital role in local festivals such as Bonalu and Batukamma. Ranganath assessed the ongoing efforts to clean the lake, deepen its bed, strengthen its embankments, and enhance its overall charm.

Later, he visited the historic Rukn-ud-Daula Lake in the Old City. Engaging with engineers and officials on site, the Commissioner sought detailed updates on each project’s progress. He pressed for swift completion of all works before the rains set in, emphasising that the revamped lakes should serve both their traditional water conservation role and as inviting recreational hubs for the public.

Officials briefed him on the range of ongoing works: cleaning, fencing, lighting installations, walking tracks, and gardening—all part of a concerted push to rejuvenate the city’s water bodies. Ranganath’s directive aims to ensure Hyderabad’s lakes are fully ready to handle the monsoon, while also offering a serene escape for residents.
