Hyderabad, January 28: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) agency has taken action against illegal constructions in the city. On September 8, 2024, HYDRA officials demolished a farmhouse owned by former Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YCP) MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy. The property was located in the Swarnapuri area of Hyderabad, within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. Authorities stated that the construction violated Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone regulations of nearby lakes.
Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, a senior leader in the YCP and former MLA of Panyam, faced the demolition due to the alleged encroachment. HYDRA has been actively targeting illegal structures built on lake beds and buffer zones in Hyderabad. The agency aims to reclaim encroached lands and protect water bodies from unauthorized developments.
In recent months, HYDRA has intensified its operations, demolishing several illegal constructions, including properties owned by prominent individuals. The agency’s actions have sparked discussions about the enforcement of regulations and the targeting of specific properties. Some political figures have accused HYDRA of selective enforcement, alleging that the agency targets certain communities or individuals. However, HYDRA maintains that its operations are impartial and solely focused on removing illegal encroachments to preserve the city’s environmental integrity.
The demolition of Reddy’s farmhouse underscores HYDRA’s commitment to enforcing regulations against illegal constructions, regardless of the owner’s political affiliation or social standing. The agency continues to monitor and act against unauthorized developments to protect Hyderabad’s natural resources and urban planning standards.
