Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough, the Warasiguda police arrested a woman accused of house burglary and recovered stolen property worth nearly ₹8 lakh, including gold and silver ornaments and cash.
The accused, identified as Gaddameeda Vijaya, 45, a real estate agent from Macha Bollaram, was arrested on Saturday at Chilkalguda X Road after police tracked her movements using extensive CCTV footage analysis.
According to police, the burglary took place on 23 May, when the complainant left her house locked to visit Srikalahasthi with her family. The next day, a neighbour called to report a broken lock and open almirahs. The complainant returned to find gold ornaments weighing around 8 tulas, 1 kg of silver items, and cash missing from the house. However, a gold chain weighing 1.4 tulas and ₹1.42 lakh in cash were later found at home by her husband.
Investigators reviewed footage from over 500 community CCTV cameras, tracing the suspect from the crime scene to Bolaram. Vijaya, who is known to the complainant, was identified and apprehended. Police said she admitted to targeting homes of relatives or friends, often when they were away. She used basic tools to break locks and almirahs, carefully covering her face to avoid detection.
