Hyderabad: In a citywide special drive against underage driving, Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 1,275 cases for violations of traffic rules and the Motor Vehicles Act. The campaign, conducted from 5 to 22 April, targeted minors found operating vehicles in defiance of legal age restrictions.
During the drive, minors were caught driving two-wheelers and other vehicles across various parts of the city. Following the crackdown, Hyderabad Traffic Police sent formal letters to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), recommending cancellation of registrations for all 1,275 vehicles involved.
As of now, the RTA has cancelled registrations for 35 vehicles driven by minors. Officials clarified that individuals caught driving underage would not be eligible to obtain a driving licence until they turn 25, in line with current enforcement protocols.
The police have urged parents to refrain from encouraging or permitting minors to drive, warning that such actions not only endanger the lives of the underage drivers but also pose a significant threat to others on the road.
