HYDERABAD: BRS MLA Harish Rao has strongly criticised the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing it of gross negligence in the SLBC tunnel tragedy, which marks fifty days without substantial progress in rescue operations.
Calling it a deeply distressing incident, Harish Rao expressed anguish over the plight of the victims’ families, who continue to wait in anguish at the tunnel site, hoping for the safe return of their loved ones. He said the state government’s failure had put the lives of eight innocent workers in jeopardy and left their families in deep sorrow.
He condemned the Congress government for completely failing to rescue those trapped in the tunnel, stating that after retrieving just two bodies, the administration had virtually abandoned the operation.
Harish Rao alleged that despite the magnitude of the incident, the response from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had been apathetic. He claimed the government failed to take precautionary measures during tunnel work and failed again to respond swiftly after the accident occurred.
He further alleged that the Chief Minister’s visit to the tunnel site appeared to be for publicity rather than to address the issue seriously. Except for a single review meeting, no sincere attempt had been made to find a resolution.
The BRS leader criticised the government for sending ministers in helicopters only to change data, without rescuing a single trapped worker. He said there had been complete failure in coordinating rescue teams and that critical decisions were delayed.
Harish Rao questioned how many more days the government would drag on by claiming that rescue efforts were ongoing, while the condition of the six workers still trapped inside remained unknown.
He demanded that the government support the families of those who lost their lives while working in Telangana for a livelihood. He also called for a full-fledged inquiry into the SLBC tunnel accident and urged the state to make the facts public.
