Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has received international acclaim for its Adaptive Traffic Signal Control System (ATCS), winning the Golden Globe Tigers Award 2025 in the Intelligent Transportation System category.
The award was presented at a ceremony held at the Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel in Malaysia. The recognition marks a significant achievement for Hyderabad’s efforts to modernize urban traffic infrastructure and enhance commuter experience.
Implemented in collaboration with the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates and Arcadis IBI Group, the ATCS system covers 280 intersections and 94 pelican crossings. The project employs CDAC’s CoSiCoSt technology to manage traffic dynamically using real-time data.
Key features of the system include vehicle-actuated control, coordinated signal synchronization, solar power integration, and centralized monitoring. GHMC reports a 15–20% improvement in average travel speed along major corridors since the system’s deployment.
Designed for scalability, the ATCS model is now being replicated in other Indian cities, including Bengaluru, underscoring its effectiveness.
GHMC officials said the award affirms the city’s commitment to intelligent, sustainable mobility solutions and positions Hyderabad as a leader in smart urban traffic management.
