Hyderabad: Protests over an ethanol factory in Gadwal district took a serious turn this week, with police arresting 12 people including several farmers following a violent attack on the proposed industrial unit in Pedda Dhanwada village.

Tension has continued to simmer in the area after Wednesday’s confrontation, during which villagers from Pedda Dhanwada and Chinna Dhanwada reportedly stormed the factory premises armed with sticks, petrol, and even chilli powder. Some factory employees were also assaulted during the incident, according to Rajoli Sub-Inspector Jagadeeshwar.

In a video statement, the SI confirmed that 12 individuals had been taken into custody and remanded, while five others had been served legal notices. A case has been registered at the Rajoli police station. Authorities are now poring over CCTV footage to identify other individuals involved and warned that further action will follow under legal provisions.

“We urge residents not to take the law into their hands,” Jagadeeshwar said, calling for restraint amid mounting tensions.

For the past few months, villagers protesting against proposed ethanol factory, citing serious environmental concerns. The protests have only grown louder, with residents firmly opposing what they see as a risk to their land and way of life.
