HYDERABAD: A sudden fire broke out on Thursday afternoon at Satavahana University in Karimnagar, engulfing a large section of the campus within a short time. Fire brigade teams battled the flames until evening and believed they had extinguished the blaze before departing.
However, the flames reignited later that night and reached the university’s examination branch. The fire destroyed several old answer scripts, electrical equipment, switchboards, and air conditioners stored there.
On Friday morning, local residents out for a walk noticed the fire and promptly alerted the authorities. Fire services returned to the scene and eventually brought the situation under control.
Officials stated that the records destroyed in the fire were around five years old and had already been marked for disposal. The process of removing these old documents was scheduled to be completed within the next few days. As such, there has been no academic loss due to the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation is currently underway.
