Hyderabad: In a sudden spike that has raised fresh concerns, Delhi reported 23 new COVID-19 cases in a single day its highest daily count in recent months. The development has prompted the city’s health authorities to call an emergency meeting to evaluate the situation and plan immediate response measures.
This uptick forms part of a wider national trend, with active COVID-19 cases across India rising to 257 as of 19 May. Other states including Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu have also reported fresh infections, fuelling apprehension over a potential resurgence of the virus.
In response, the Delhi Health Department has intensified testing and surveillance, particularly in localities where recent cases have emerged. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and follow preventive measures such as mask-wearing, maintaining physical distance, and regular hand hygiene.
While no severe cases have been reported in this wave so far, officials emphasise the importance of early caution to prevent a wider outbreak.
