Hyderabad, February 4: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has declared Telangana’s caste census an official and historic initiative, positioning it as a model for the entire country. He stated that upcoming panchayat elections would be conducted based on the census findings, with the Backward Classes (BC) Commission responsible for implementing the survey’s recommendations.
Speaking to the media in the Assembly on Tuesday, Revanth Reddy asserted that Telangana had successfully completed the caste enumeration, increasing pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate a nationwide caste survey. He noted that there is growing demand across states for similar surveys to ensure equitable representation.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Congress government is committed to justice for BCs, SCs, and minorities, stressing that SC classification will proceed in line with Supreme Court rulings. Telangana’s approach, he said, would serve as a roadmap for future caste enumeration and SC classification efforts across India.
Revanth Reddy criticised the previous BRS administration for failing to disclose data from the 2014 Comprehensive Household Survey. In contrast, he assured that Telangana’s caste census findings had received Cabinet approval and would soon be presented in the Assembly. If permitted by the Speaker, a detailed discussion on the report will take place in the House.
Revanth Reddy also clarified that the issuance of notices to defected MLAs is part of a standard legal procedure following Supreme Court directions.
