Hyderabad: A fatal highway crash near Choutuppal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district claimed two lives and left 20 others injured after a travel bus rammed into a broken-down lorry parked on the roadside.
The mishap occurred at Kaitapuram when the lorry, en route from Vijayawada to Hyderabad, reportedly stalled due to a mechanical failure and was left stranded on the busy Vijayawada-Hyderabad national highway. A few minutes later, a Hyderabad-bound travel bus from Vijayawada ploughed straight into it from behind.
The impact was deadly. The bus driver and a woman passenger died on the spot, while scores of others sustained injuries. Local authorities rushed the injured to Choutuppal Government Hospital, where they are being treated.
The collision brought traffic to a standstill on the highway, with vehicles piling up in both directions. Police quickly arrived at the scene, cleared the wreckage, and restored the flow of traffic. Choutuppal Circle Inspector Manmath Kumar inspected the site and confirmed that a case had been registered.
