Hyderabad: The Telangana Government is set to roll out a slew of measures aimed at strengthening employee welfare, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu announced on Thursday after a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat.
Speaking to the media, Bhatti Vikramarka said the Cabinet had approved a double bonanza for employees: one Dearness Allowance (DA) instalment would be implemented immediately, and another would follow in six months.
In a significant move, he revealed that a new health card scheme would be introduced, with each employee contributing ₹500 a month matched by an equal government contribution. The scheme would operate through a dedicated trust led by the Chief Secretary, with top officials as its members.
Pending bills, amounting to ₹700 crore a month, would be cleared without delay, he said. “We’re determined to resolve the financial backlog,” he added.
The Deputy CM also confirmed that the government had accepted the employee unions’ demand for a 12.5% quota in the Secretariat, describing it as a key step towards ensuring fair representation.
He said the government had agreed to set up a Medical Invalidation Committee and decided against re-employing retired staff. Panchayat workers would now be graded according to the classification of their respective panchayats.
For promotions, a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) would soon be formed to streamline the process, while officers and employees transferred during the election period would be restored to their original postings.
Highlighting another administrative measure, Bhatti Vikramarka announced the establishment of a Director of Nursing post, aimed at strengthening the health sector.
He said retirement benefits for Anganwadi workers would be increased to ₹2 lakh, while bills related to rental vehicles of government officials would be cleared promptly, with vehicle limits set to be revised.
The government would also review GO 317, a longstanding concern among employees.
In a major step towards addressing employee grievances, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had constituted a high-level committee of three senior officials, along with a Cabinet sub-committee headed by Bhatti Vikramarka himself.
