HYDERABAD: TGSCSB Director General Shikha Goel has issued a warning regarding the rise of fake WhatsApp calls targeting corporate companies. She advised that if calls appear to be from senior executives, payments should only be made after verification through authorized communication channels. Recently, cybercriminals impersonated a company’s managing director via a WhatsApp call to an accountant, resulting in a substantial fund transfer. Upon the MD’s complaint, the funds were promptly secured. These fraudsters use fake WhatsApp display pictures to commit cybercrimes, necessitating heightened vigilance. If targeted by such scams, individuals should immediately report to the Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
