DELHI: Telangana Congress BC ministers, MLAs and MLCs have already arrived in Delhi ahead of a major protest at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.
The demonstration, led by 12 BC welfare organisations, is aimed at pressing the Centre to approve two reservation bills passed recently by the Telangana Assembly. These bills propose 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in education, employment, and local body elections.
The protest is being organised under the aegis of Telangana BC associations, which are demanding that the bills be approved by Parliament and included under Schedule 9 of the Constitution to shield them from legal challenges.
BC association leaders have reportedly invited representatives from various political parties to attend the protest, including the Congress, BRS, MIM, Left parties, and the BJP. In response, several prominent Congress leaders from Telangana have reached the national capital. These include ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha, TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, Government Whip Aadi Srinivas, and MLAs Beerla Ilaiah, Makan Singh Raj Thakur, Vakiti Srihari, and Erlapalli Shankaraiah.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is also expected to leave for Delhi shortly to join the protest.
According to available information, senior Congress leaders such as Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will participate in the event. Following the protest, the BC ministers and MLAs are scheduled to meet national leaders to seek their support for enacting the BC reservation enhancement into law.
