Tirupati, January 6: A tragic accident occurred in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district on Monday when an ambulance hit a group of pilgrims walking to Tirumala near Narasingapuram in Chandragiri Mandal. The incident resulted in the deaths of two women, while three others sustained serious injuries.
Police identified the deceased as Peddareddamma (40) from Chempalapalli village in Annamaiah district’s Ramasamudram Mandal and Lakshmamma (45) from Shegamvaripalli. The injured were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities stated that the victims were part of a group on a pilgrimage to Tirumala on foot, starting from Punganur. The ambulance, which was transporting a patient from Madanapalle to Tirupati’s Ruia Hospital, veered off course and struck the pilgrims.
A case has been registered, and police have launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
