Hyderabad: Congress MLAs from the joint Warangal district, led by former Deputy Chief Minister and Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari, urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to approve a Telangana State Sports School and a dedicated cricket stadium for Warangal.
Srihari, along with Warangal Congress legislators Revuri Prakash Reddy, Nayini Rajender Reddy, Mamidala Yashaswini Reddy, and K R Nagaraju, met the Chief Minister at his Jubilee Hills residence to present the proposal.
The delegation highlighted Warangal’s rich history in producing national and international sports talent, including Arjuna and Dronacharya awardees. At present, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is the district’s only functioning sports facility, operated by the District Sports Authority.
With Warangal expanding and evolving into Telangana’s second major city, the leaders said the current infrastructure was insufficient. They proposed the establishment of a residential sports school on KUDA land in Unnikicherla village, Dharmasagar mandal, to support academic and athletic training.
Srihari said Warangal is an education hub in North Telangana, home to institutions like NIT, Kakatiya University, and multiple medical and engineering colleges. He stressed that cricket remains a major sport in the region and that students and youth are demanding a modern cricket stadium.

The MLAs acknowledged CM Revanth Reddy’s push to develop Warangal into Telangana’s second capital, citing projects like underground drainage, an airport, an inner ring road, and a mega textile park. They argued that a cricket stadium would further elevate the city’s status.
Responding to the appeal, CM Revanth Reddy reportedly instructed the concerned department to examine the proposals and begin procedural steps. He assured full support for Warangal’s growth and committed to sanctioning both projects at the earliest.
