Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed education officials to construct additional classrooms in government schools facing high enrolment pressures.
The instruction came during a review meeting with senior officials of the Education Department at the Command Control Centre. Revanth Reddy stressed the need to upgrade the state’s education system to higher standards and asked that school infrastructure be expanded wherever admissions have increased.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that nearly 48,000 students have moved from private to government schools this academic year. In response, he instructed that new classrooms be built based on actual enrolment figures at each school.
District additional collectors have been told to inspect at least two government schools every week. The Chief Minister also directed a review of proposals to install solar-powered kitchens in schools to address cooking challenges faced by women using wood or gas stoves.
Revanth Reddy expressed concern over the gap between the number of students passing Class 10 and those enrolling in intermediate education. He ordered that all students who clear Class 10 be ensured admission into intermediate courses.
He further directed officials to introduce skill-based training programmes after intermediate to improve students’ employment prospects.
