Hyderabad: A 19-year-old student at the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Women’s Degree College in Mancherial attempted suicide by jumping from the hostel building late Tuesday night.
The student, identified as Kummari Swapna from Marthid village in Bejjur mandal of Asifabad district, is a second-year BZC student at the college.
According to local sources and police, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Hostel staff and fellow students rushed Swapna to the Mancherial Government General Hospital with multiple injuries and alerted her family and the police.
As her condition remained critical, she was shifted to Karimnagar and later moved to Hyderabad for advanced treatment.
Mancherial Town SI Tirupati confirmed the suicide attempt and said the student was under treatment in Hyderabad. The reason behind the attempt is yet to be established.
This is the second such case at the same college in recent weeks. On April 24, another second-year student, Jangampalli Lakshmi Prasanna from Jaggayyapet in Bheemini mandal, died by suicide after jumping from the same college building.
