Muharram procession

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police conducted a high-level coordination meeting on Tuesday to finalise arrangements for the upcoming Muharram procession, expected to be held on July 6 or 7, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon.

The meeting, chaired by Hyderabad Commissioner of Police and DG, CV Anand, IPS, brought together Shia religious leaders, local elected representatives, and officials from multiple government departments.

Held at Salarjung Museum, the session covered preparations related to security, traffic diversions, utilities, medical response, and crowd management for the 10th day Ashura procession.

The Bibi-ka-Alam procession traditionally starts at Dabeerpura and passes through Ettebar Chowk, Kotla Aliza, Panjesha, Miralam Mandi, Charminar-Gulzar House, Purani Haveli, and Darulshifa, ending at Masjid-e-Ilahi, Chaderghat.

CV Anand said comprehensive plans were being put in place to ensure a peaceful procession. All crime teams, police platoons, and She Teams will be deployed along the route. He highlighted that measures were being taken to prevent eve-teasing and any disruption.

Traffic officials will implement diversion plans and coordinate parking arrangements to ease congestion. The entire procession route will be under real-time surveillance from the Command Control Centre (TGICCC) at Banjara Hills.

He asked organizers to bring the ceremonial elephant 2–3 days before the procession and ensure it is kept safely. Veterinary staff and tranquilizers will be on standby as a precaution.

Representatives from GHMC, R&B, Waterworks, Electricity, Health, Fire Services, the Waqf Board, and the Nehru Zoological Park participated in the meeting.

The session was also attended by South Zone DCP Sneha Mehra, MLC Mirza Riaz ul Hasan Effendi, MLAs Zafar Hussain and Mir Zulfikar Ali, and key religious leaders including Dr. Moulana Nissar Hussain, Najjaf Ali Shoukat, and Syed Azmathullah Hussain, among others.
