Hyderabad: Telangana Police was awarded national recognition on Tuesday for operating the most efficient digital platform for passport applicant verification in the country. Director General of Police (Intelligence), B. Shivdhar Reddy, received the award in New Delhi from Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita during the Passport Seva Divas event.
The award acknowledges Telangana’s leadership in using technology to streamline police verification for passport applicants. As per the Ministry of External Affairs’ latest national data, Telangana processes the majority of verifications within three working days the fastest in the country.
Accepting the award, Shivdhar Reddy said the department had set a “gold standard” and was continuing to innovate to improve the citizen experience.
The state’s proprietary platform, the VeriFast App, has recorded over 2,000 verifications per day and handles more than eight lakh cases annually. Key features include a structured workflow with automatic case allocation, zero backlog through dynamic deployment of field officers, and real-time alerts to applicants at every stage.
The system plugs into existing criminal databases to flag high-risk applicants without needing extra hardware or pushing up operational costs. With a 95% user satisfaction rate, it’s already being hailed as a model for digital policing and smart governance.
An auto-assignment engine drives accountability by matching officers to cases quickly, accelerating background checks and cutting down on manual processing. Applicants are notified at every step, making the entire verification process faster and more transparent.
